Primordial Qigong : New Forest

Return to the Original Breath of Life

Primordial Qigong is one of the most ancient and revered Qigong practices known. Rooted in Taoist wisdom, it is a practice passed down through a precise and complete sequence of movements, breath and sound.

This practice invites us back to the original state of harmony that existed before conditioning, before striving, before fragmentation – a time when breath, movement, sound and spirit arose naturally from the same source.

Often described as ‘the Qigong before Qigong,’ Primordial Qigong works directly with Yuan Qi – our original, pre-heaven vitality – restoring communication between Heaven, Earth and the Human field, awakening an innate intelligence that already knows how to restore balance and wholeness.

Primordial Qigong is taught as a specific, intentional form, designed to reawaken the body’s innate capacity for harmony, regulation and renewal.

What Makes Primordial Qigong So Powerful

Primordial Qigong is both deeply subtle and profoundly transformative. It is a clearly arranged system of movements that has been refined over generations to systematically clear, circulate and replenish vital energy.

Through repeated practice, the form:

  • Settles the mind with movement and synchronised breath
  • Clears stagnation across the meridians, organs and energy centres
  • Harmonises the organs and nervous system
  • Harmonises Heaven, Earth and Human energies
  • Nourishes the nervous system and calms the whole system
  • •Reconnects you with your original energetic blueprint

Over time, some practitioners may naturally experience spontaneous movement or inner flow states. These arise as a result of energetic coherence, rather than being taught or induced during the practice itself.

Many people experience a sense of coming home – to the body, the breath, to something timeless within themselves.

Primordial Qigong is a practice that meets you exactly where you are, yet works far beyond the thinking mind. It is both accessible and deeply sophisticated.

A Living, Embodied Experience

Primordial Qigong is best received in nature, where the wisdom of the land supports the remembering that is taking place within you.

The New Forest provides the perfect container for this work, spacious, sacred and grounded. Here, the boundaries between our inner and outer soften. Trees become teachers. Breathing deepens and time expands.

This Day Retreat is about listening, allowing and trusting the movement of life itself.

What to Expect on the Day

During our time together you will be guided through:

  • A gentle yet potent introduction to Primordial Qigong

A Living Lineage

Primordial Qigong arises from the deep well of Taoist cosmology rather than a single moment or maker. Like many ancient internal arts, its origins are woven through legend, oral transmission and lived practice. Some traditions associate it with early Taoist sages and the undifferentiated source from which Heaven, Earth and Human life emerge.

In more recent history, Primordial Qigong has been carried forward through several lineages. In the West, the form became known through teachers who learned it in China or from Chinese masters, including transmissions connected with Wudang Mountain and teachers such as Master Zhu Hui and Master Li Tong. These lineages helped introduce the practice to a wider audience and preserve its core sequence.

Alongside this, Primordial Qigong has also been transmitted through the Taoist and internal arts lineage of Master Feng Zhiqiang, one of the great Taiji Quan and Qigong masters of the modern era. Through his teaching, and that of his senior student Madame Gao Fu (1916–2005), the practice was passed to Ken Cohen, who continues to teach it internationally today and trained Clara to be able to teach it to you.

As with many classical practices, Primordial Qigong remains a living art – shaped by lineage, refined through experience and revealed most fully through practice itself.
